Nile River white water rafting experience was really the first of the adrenaline activities to start in the Nile River. It was through this sport that adrenaline addicts travelled from all over the world to have a go on what is rated as the best one day rafting trip in the world.
You can decide to have a sleep over in Jinja, which is the closest city, or drive early morning at 6 am, from Kampala, to catch up with the rafting programme.
White water rafting experience on the Nile River, starts with a heavy breakfast, and later on during the rafting session, a picnic sandwich lunch will be served during the course of the day raft, and at the end, a BBQ dinner is served, with complimentary drinks.
You will then be issued with a life jacket and helmet and a paddle if you are going in a paddle boat, later briefed before you start your descent into the gorge, which is a very steep gradient and can prove difficult for some less fit clients.
The rafts are waiting for you on the water and once aboard, more safety measures and instruction take place before heading into rapid number one.
There are 3 options of rafting, thus grade 5 rafting, grade 3 rafting and grade 5 extreme rafting. There is also the option to do a full day rafting or half day rafting.
The main route has 9 main rapids, four of which are grade 5.
The rapids become stronger and quicker as you go downstream. In-between the rapids are calm waters and islands where participants can relax, swim, take lunch or marvel at the beautiful scenery. A day of whitewater rafting can cover a distance of up to 26 kilometers. Expect to encounter locals fishing and drying their clothes by the riverside. The river in Jinja is a birder’s paradise with over 100 species. Keen observers might even spot vervet monkeys swinging on top of trees along the river bank.
At the end of the day, BBQ dinner is served and there are plenty of cold drinks and beers after which you are then transported back to your lodge.
