If you are looking for a great fishing destination, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, think about the type of fish you want to catch. Different types of fish can be found in different locations. For example, if you want to catch Nile Perch, you will need to find a lake or river that is known for Nile Perch fishing. Uganda is a good place to catch Nile Perch, Tilapia and mad fish.
We have been offering half and full day excursions for “catch and release” of Nile Perch for over the years and our experience ensures we know the best spots, methods and also have experienced and knowledgeable skippers who have a good command of the English language.
Traditional Fishing Season
All year round avoiding full moon and the April/May rainy season
Fish Caught / Methods
Nile Perch. Between approximately 5-25 kg in weight are the more usually hooked perch, although there are occasions of heavier fish being found. Trolling with lures is the main method of fishing used.
Boats Used
Speedboats of between 18 and 30 foot (6-10 metres), powered by twin outboard engines are used. The boats have a large seating capacity but cater for a maximum of 4 people fishing at any one time (to avoid line tangling etc). Fiberglass 24 foot long “canoe” powered by an outboard engine is also available for smaller groups of 2-3 fishermen for day trips (not overnight).
Equipment & Facilities on board
Our boats are equipped with an overhead sun canopy, rain suits (there can be a certain amount of spray when the lake is rough), mobile phone, life jackets, basic first aid box and fire extinguisher on board for your safety. We also have a cooler box on board for cold drink storage.
All equipment and lures for trolling for perch for up to 4 lines per boat are supplied, but anglers are free to bring their own. Anything damaged or lost will need to be paid for before disembarkation. Lures are between 20-25USD each if lost.
We run fishing tours in the best locations, thus at Lake Victoria and Murchison Falls National Park, at the base of the fall. Other places like Jinja at the Nile and Queen Elizabeth National Park at the Kazinga channel, local fishing can be arranged
You might not catch anything. As we mentioned before, fishing takes patience and perseverance. Even experienced anglers sometimes go home empty-handed. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t catch any fish on your first trip. Just enjoy the experience and try again another time.
Nevertheless, you will have fun. Fishing is a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Even if you don’t catch any fish, we guarantee you’ll have a good time.
