Trip Overview

The 8 Days Rwanda Uganda Volcano hiking adventure safaris, takes you to Rwanda and Uganda, to explore the great Virunga Volcano massive that is shared by the two countries. You will undertake a great hiking challenge in the parks of Volcanoes National Park, for Mount Bisoke and Dian Fossey Tomb hike, cross over to Uganda, to hike Mount Sabyinyo, and Mount Muhabura at Mgahinga National Park, before returning to Rwanda, and transfer to Nyungwe National Park, for Source of the Nile and Isumo waterfalls hike. Day 1: Airport Transfer to Hotel.

Day Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will go through customs and immigration, and you will be met by our company representative who will warmly welcome you to Rwanda – the Land of a thousand hills and later drive to your booked hotel accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes to Hike Mount Bisoke. Travel time + 2 hours

Day Itinerary

Meet your guide at 4:30am at your hotel in Kigali, share a short briefing and drive off to Musanze, which is roughly 2.3 hours’ drive away from Kigali. You will reach and proceed to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi, where you will receive a briefing from the park ranger at RDB Office, before heading for your Mount Bisoke hiking adventure. Start the climb; you climb to the top of Bisoke volcano, which stands at an elevation of 3711 m above the sea level and take a look at her beautiful Crater Lake and back to Musanze. The hike takes roughly 5 – 7 hours depending on how fit and fast your group is on hiking experience. Later return, meet your driver guide, and drive to your booked accommodation for refreshment, later dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Dian Fossey Tomb hike and transfer to Kisoro

Day Itinerary

Early in the morning, you will receive a briefing from the park ranger at RDB Office, before heading for your hiking adventure. Start the climb; you climb to Dian Fossey grave yard on a guided trail, with a great informative ranger guide, who will share with you the entire story of Dian Fossey’s life at the park, and her great work towards gorilla conservation. The hike takes roughly 5 – 7 hours round trip, depending on your hiking experience, and the hiking group of that day. You will later return and drive off to Kisoro, through the Cyanika border, to your booked lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Hike Mount Muhabura.

Day Itinerary

Meet your guide at your hotel after an early morning breakfast, share a short briefing, and later proceed with your drive to Mgahinga National Park, where you will get ready for a challenging hike, as you meet your park hiking guide with your packed lunch, where you will undertake Mount Muhabura hiking.  The mountain is 4127 m above sea level and it takes 5 – 6 hours of hiking. You will enjoy the beautiful view that this mountain rewards with great flowers along the way. The hiking is a bit challenging and you need to be in good shape, but the scenery along the way is rewarding. You will later return to your booked accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Hike Mountain Sabyinyo

Day Itinerary

Today, we head for another amazing hiking challenge, to take on Sabyinyo, which rewards you with a great experience, of viewing the 3 countries, from one stand. Due to the extremely rugged nature of the terrain along the Sabyinyo’s slopes that has many craters with sharp ridges, the mountain cannot be trekked in the other two countries except in Uganda where they have managed to work out a safe trekking route to the summit, though with a very challenging trails that includes improvising handmade ladders to assist climbers at very steep sections. Standing at 3645 m, Mount Sabyinyo, is one of the most exciting volcanoes, which offers a great hiking adventure. Peak 3 is reached by a steep and muddy scramble. The borders of three countries converge on this summit and you will find yourself simultaneously in Rwanda, Congo and Uganda. The 14km round trip takes about 8 hours. You will later return in the evening, and retire at your lodge, refresh and later dinner and overnight stay

Day 6: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park. Travel time + 6hrs

Day Itinerary

Meet your guide, after your breakfast at your lodge, jump into your jeep and cross over to Rwanda, visit the Twin Lakes and proceed with your drive to Nyungwe National Park, via Gisenyi, along Lake Kivu belt with a great stunning view of the Lake Kivu and Congo on the Kivu belt drive circuit.

Day 7: Source of the Nile and Isumo waterfalls hike

Day Itinerary

Today, after your breakfast, you will meet your guide, and later head off for the source of the Nile waterfalls hike. You will have a wonderful time enjoying the cool natural breeze as you troll the trail, which is roughly a 2 hours hike. You will later return for lunch and after lunch head for Isumo waterfall hike, to explore other waterfalls, within the park, with a great nature trail. On a good day, spot a number of birds and primate along the trail. Return for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Return to Kigali. Travel time + 5 hours

Day Itinerary

Have a relaxed breakfast at your lodge, meet your driver guide, and find your way to Kigali, with an option en route museum visit. You will reach Kigali and transfer to the airport or booked accommodation. End of service!
