Trip Overview

The 8 Days Rwanda Congo Uganda primate and hiking adventure safari takes you to 3 countries, thus RwandaDR Congo and Uganda. You have opportunity to trek chimpanzee at Nyungwe National Park and hike to Dian Fossey grave yard at Volcanoes National Park plus city tour and museum visit in Rwanda, cross to DR Congo for low land gorilla trekking at Kahuzi Biega National Park and later cross to Uganda for Mount Sabyinyo hiking and golden monkey trekkingat Mgahinga National Park before returning to Kigali, for your evening departure flight. This is a round trip, starting and ending in Kigali – Rwanda, with a great primate encounter, and hiking adventure.

Day 1: Airport Transfer to Hotel.

Day Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will go through customs and immigration, and you will be met by our company representative who will warmly welcome you to Rwanda – the Land of a thousand hills and later drive to your booked hotel accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Know Rwanda, the past and present

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, get ready to explore Kigali and its suburbs, visit Belgium museum, and visit Kigali genocide memorial, learn more about the Rwanda genocide against Tusti of 1994, listen to shot videos clips, as you tour around the memorial ground and after we drive to the south, to visit Nyamata and Ntarama, genocide memorials or you can decide to head to the local markets, and art and craft markets for shopping and later dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park. Travel time +5 hours

Day Itinerary

Early morning, enjoy your buffer breakfast and checkout of the hotel and drive heading to the western province, on your way visit the King Palace museum in Southern Province, this will give you a great history of traditional ways of living among Rwandans and their past way of leadership of Kingship with an en route lunch in Huye.  You will proceed, in the afternoon at Nyungwe National Park and catch up with canopy walk experience, which is roughly an hour and half, with experience of the forest canopy, and later head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe and transfer to DR Congo

Day Itinerary

Today, after your early morning cup of African coffee, you will leave your hotel to experience the natural forest of Nyungwe, well known for having 13 species of primates, and transferred to the park for briefing and chimpanzee trekking. You will be entitled to one hour on finding the chimpanzees. After doing the chimpanzee trek, return and head for lunch before transferring to DR Congo through Bukavu border, where you will get your Congo visa and proceed to your booked accommodation in DRC which is roughly 30km away for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5:  Low Land Gorilla trekking and transfer to Musanze

Day Itinerary

After a delightful breakfast in the morning, you will head for your first briefing at the Kahuzi Biega National Park, park head office and later followed by the low land gorilla trekking, at Kahuzi Biega National Park. An hour will be allocated upon finding the gorillas and later return, from your trek, meet your guide and transfer back to Rwanda, and proceed with your en route drive to Musanze, on the Kivu belt, which rewards you with an en route beautiful view of Lake Kivu. You will reach in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Dian Fossey hike and transfer to Kisoro

Day Itinerary

Early in the morning, you will receive a briefing from the park ranger at RDB Office, before heading for your hiking adventure. Start the climb; you climb to Dian Fossey grave yard on a guided trail, with a great informative ranger guide, who will share with you the entire story of Dian Fossey’s life at the park, and her great work towards gorilla conservation. The hike takes roughly 5 – 7 hours round trip, depending on your hiking experience, and the hiking group of that day. You will later return and drive off to Kisoro, through the Cyanika border, to your booked lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Hike Mountain Sabyinyo

Day Itinerary

Today, we head for another amazing mount Sabyinyo hiking challenge, to take on Sabinyo, which rewards you with a great experience, of viewing the 3 countries, from one stand. Due to the extremely rugged nature of the terrain along the Sabyinyo’s slopes that has many craters with sharp ridges, the mountain cannot be trekked in the other two countries except in Uganda where they have managed to work out a safe though challenging trail that includes improvising handmade ladders to assist climbers at very steep sections.

Standing at 3645 m, Mount Sabyinyo, is one of the most exciting volcanoes, which offers great hiking adventures. Peak 3 is reached by a steep and muddy scramble. The borders of three countries converge on this summit and you will find yourself simultaneously in Rwanda, Congo and Uganda. The 14km round trip takes about 8 hours. You will later return and transfer to your booked accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Golden Monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali for departure.   

Day Itinerary

Today after your warm early morning breakfast, you will be picked by our safari driver guide who will transfer you to the park headquarters for briefing and start off your day golden monkey trekking. Just like the gorilla trekking experience, the same applies to golden monkey trekking though not so hectic like gorilla trekking. You will later return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will jump into your jeep and drive to Kigali, and you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport to catch up with your onward evening flight. End of service!
