Safari Overview
This Safari package is often referred to as Mikeno Mist.
Mikeno Mist, will give you a great experience of exploring one of the most touristic attractions in DR Congo, as you will have a lovely adventure exploring this virgin land that is just starting to open up to tourism, with everything still authentic and natural. You will experience a truly natural state with a great stunning view of the farming larva, with a great opportunity to come face to face with the Congo Mountain Gorillas. This is a lifetime experience with one of the world famous treks. You will trek the gorillas in the Virunga National Park, as well as be able to hike to the summit of Mount Nyiragongo, known for its famous burning lava, viewed during the night.

The Mikeno Mist package includes a three night stay in Virunga: two nights in Kibumba Tented Camp with a gorilla trek and one night stay on Nyiragongo volcano. The trip starts and ends in Kigali.

Day 1: Airport transfer in Kigali.
Day Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, you will go through customs and immigration, and you will be met by our company guide who will warmly welcome you to the Land of a thousand hills that Rwanda is known for, and later drive to your booked hotel accommodation for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Transfer to Congo for your adventure experience. Travel time +3hrs
Day Itinerary
After having your early morning breakfast, jump off the jeep and start our drive to Congo with a great view of the countryside, known for its 1000 hills, arrive at Grande Barriere border crossing at 10:30am and ensure check-in with Virunga tourism office by 11:15am. The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite passport control. Guests will receive gorilla and volcano trek permits at check-in which must be presented at the start of each trek. Once check-in is complete, visitors will be transported to Kibumba Tented camp for your overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking experience in Virunga National Park
Day Itinerary
After an early morning breakfast at Kibumba Tented Camp, trekkers will head down the hill to meet with their Ranger guides and have a briefing before the gorilla trek, and later, you will drive to the starting point of the gorilla trek. The gorilla treks usually require 1-2.5 hours of hiking each way, depending on the location of the gorilla group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending the allotted hour with the gorilla family group, trekkers will make their way back to camp, enjoy a late lunch and have the rest of the day at leisure, including time for nature walks and bird watching.

Day 4: Mount Nyirangongo Volcano hike
Day Itinerary
After breakfast in Kibumba, guests will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post at 8:15am, departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival to Kibati, guests will receive a briefing and will have the opportunity to hire porters. The climb up the volcano will take around four to six hours, with a beautiful scenic view of nature, as you share wonderful stories with the guide, taking a lovely hike up the volcanoes and trekkers will overnight on the summit, with a great stunning view of the burning larva. Virunga is an Oasis of hope, not only for the region, but also for Africa and for the whole nature of our planet. In the middle of this a churning pit of lava. You can’t help but gawp at the sight of it. A place not of this Earth, right here on Earth. Meal Plan: Full board.
Day 5: Descend Mount Nyiragongo Volcano and Transfer to Kigali.
Day Itinerary
In the early morning, guests will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. Average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, guests will be transported back to Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere. Later, cross the border back to Rwanda and transfer to Kigali to catch up with your evening flight back home. End of service!
