Akagera National Park is a the only Savannah park in Rwanda and is home to several mammal species including Lions, Elephants, Giraffes, Hippos, Kobs, Zebras, Bushbucks, Waterbucks and most recently Black Rhinos have been introduced from South Africa, making Akagera national park officially a big 5 park like it was many years ago. Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park from Kigali. Travel time +2hrs

Day Itinerary

Today, after your relaxed morning breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you will be picked by your assigned dedicated safari guide, share a small safari briefing and leave for Akagera national park, the journey to Akagera national park takes about 2.5 hours depending on the stopovers along the way, with the beautiful unwinding landscape en route to the park, feel free to ask the guide for stopovers to capture some photos. On arrival at the park, we shall proceed to our accommodation after a short game drive and check in for lunch. We ordered lunch and later headed for an afternoon game drive in the southern sector of the park for game viewing. We shall search for both small and big ones, before we return to the lodge for refreshment. At 5:30 pm, we shall head for an evening game drive, which rewards us with an opportunity to sport the nocturnal wildlife, during the night game drive. The night game drive lasts for 1.3 to 2 hours. Later return to the lodge for dinner and evening stay.

Akagera National Park.

Bordering Tanzania at the East, in Rwanda, Akagera National Park, is the only Rwanda’s savannah park, patched with a number of bird species, with over 500 bird species can be spotted, and numerous wildlife, including the Big Five. Akagera National Park, has been recently stalked with Rhinoceros, and lions, which has greatly multiplied and improved on the wildlife safari experience in Akagera.  The park offers endless day game drives and night game drives including a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. If you’re truly into wildlife safari experience, Akagera National Park is a great add on, on your trip to Rwanda

Day 2: Game drive and sunset boat cruise at Akagera National Park

Day Itinerary

After an early morning breakfast at 6:00 am and leave for an early morning game drive in Akagera national park to catch up with late hunters and early risers. We will be searching for the big mammals like Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, several Antelope species, and recently the re-introduced Lions and Rhinos. The park is a varied habitat for wildlife and a number of bird species with over 500 bird species in the park making it a birding paradise. You will later return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, relax and at 4 pm, we head for a sunset boat trip on Lake Ihema, watch Hippos and crocodiles in the water or by the shores and meet the buffaloes and elephants wallowing by the water banks. Number of bird species can as well be sighted as they return for nesting. Later return to the lodge for dinner and evening stay.

Day 3: Behind the scene experience and game drive in Akagera National Park

Day Itinerary

After a relaxed breakfast at the lodge, at 8 am, you will head to the park reception, meet your crew and head for a Behind the scene experience at Akagera National Park. For additional insights into Akagera, take a ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of park headquarters, where you’ll meet employees integral to park management while learning about exciting conservation developments. You will get to learn more about conservation, methods used at the park, and other ecological practices used at the park. Later, you will drive off, up north, with a wonderful game drive en route, reach Kilala plain, for additional game drive. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Full day game drive in Akagera National Park

Day Itinerary

Today, you will have unlimited game drives in the park.

Wake up and find breakfast ready, to the beautiful sunrise over the Kilala plains. This is the most beautiful spot in Rwanda, to watch the sunrise over the beautiful savanna, listening to the eco and sound of the wilderness, a very quiet atmosphere, where you feel soaked into nature. Get closer to thrilling wildlife interactions and see creatures big and small on morning and afternoon game drives, with the night game drives which gives you a great opportunity to sight the jackal’s and other nocturnal creatures. Whether you’re a family on safari, a photographer, big cat enthusiast or avid birder, game drives are an essential part of the safari experience. You will enjoy an ultimate game drive in the north of the park, where the largest concentration of wildlife is found in Akagera. Later in the evening, return to your lodge and watch the sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Game drive and transfer back to Kigali

Day Itinerary

It has been wonderful here, it is time to have your last wildlife sighting and say bye bye!

You will leave the lodge after a relaxed breakfast, head for a brief game drive, to add on your sightings, or opt for a full day game drive, before we drive back to Kigali and later be dropped at your booked hotel in Kigali or airport to catch up with your afternoon flight. End of service!
