Day Itinerary
You will be picked up by your guide, from your place of residence near to Mount Rwenzori (in case you’re far away, a day before transfer and accommodation can be arranged) and transfer to the park, briefing point.
We start by walking up the valley floor through tall forest trees of the Afro Montane Forest Zone. This is a steady climb for the first six kilometers then after crossing a river it is a steep climb up to Sine Camp. The forest trees are tall with multitudes of birds and a chance of seeing blue monkeys scampering off through the forest. Enock’s Falls are just 200 meters from Sine Hut and offer a splendid opportunity to capture a great screensaver for your memories as brightly clouded green lichen grow on the many lives hanging from the trees with the waterfall as a background
At Sine Camp 2,596 metres we have wooden huts set between tall forest trees on a narrow ridge where you may sit and enjoy the beauty forest while you look down at a long set of rapids and waterfalls crashing over the rocks. Some clients prefer to sit outside enjoying the warmth of the campfire and chat to the guides about the mountains and life in their community. Sine is just below the bamboo zone and the area around has many different bird species. 150 meters from the camp is Enock falls which is set in livid green vegetation and hanging vine. Truly beautiful.
Overnight stay at: Kalalama Camp or Sine Camp (Hut)
Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner
Day 2: Hike down to the base camp 1450 metres. Altitude: 2596 m – 1450 m, distance: 9.5km.
Day Itinerary
After a good breakfast and depending on which camp you slept in depends on today’s activities. If you sleep in Kalalama Camp you will hear the calls of the Rwenzori Turaco which loves living and nesting in the Giant Heathers which are abundant here. You may choose to search out the Turaco to get good photos or you may decide to climb up at little further to see the mosses growing on the ground, logs and trees before returning down to just above Sine Camp where you take the trail on the left slope down to Enock Falls which is truly beautiful and walk down through some incredibly beautiful forest. The forest walk is a steady descent through pristine forest with a multitude of birds. There are several patches of bamboo while in other areas the trees are laced with hundreds of vines hanging between trees which have bright green lichen on them. This section of forest is spectacular and just before you get to Sine Camp you walk across a stream immediately below a beautiful waterfall. At Sine Camp, you sit on the verandah and look down to a stunning set of rapids cascading down the valley.
Or if you had decided to sleep in Sine Camp you may decide to walk straight down the forest walk or you may climb up to Kalalama Camp to experience the views before passing back down to the park entrance and the hostel. From there you will meet your guide, and transfer you for lunch and later to your place of residence. End of service!
