Trip Overview

The 18 Days Rwanda Gorilla trekking, wildlife experience and Zanzibar adventure safari takes you to the hearts of Volcanoes National Park, which is known to harbor the famous mountain gorillas. You will land through Kigali – Rwanda, with a visit to Volcanoes National Park to trek the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys at Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. You have a chance to come face to face with the gorillas. You will as well have a great experience of meeting the gorilla and golden monkeys in their natural habitat, before you fly to Kenya, and, later drive for a wonderful Big Five safari experience in the world’s greatest wildlife safari park, Amboseli, Nakuru, Naivasha and Masai Mara National Reserve, known for its unique bird species and abundant BIG 5 wildlife experiences before you connect to Serengeti and Ngorongoro in Tanzania for a wonderful safari moment. The safari starts with arrival through Kigali – Rwanda, through Kenya and Tanzania famous parks and ends with a flight to Zanzibar, for an extraordinary beach experience. Day 1: Arrival in Kigali.

Day Itinerary

Welcome to Kigali – Rwanda!

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and passing through the immigration process, you will be welcomed by our safari driver who will brief you shortly, lead you to your vehicle and transfer you to the booked accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kigali city tour and transfer to Musanze: Travel time +2 hrs 

Day Itinerary

Today after taking your relaxed morning breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge, meet your guide, share a short introductory briefing about the trip, get into your safari vehicle and drive to visit the Kigali genocide memorial grounds, which honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building. You will be able to watch and listen to some video clips from some of the survivors’ of the incident. Later you will proceed for lunch in town before you drive to Musanze which is roughly 2 hours to your booked accommodation, where you will reach in the evening and relax, as you prepare for your next day’s gorilla trekking experience at Volcanoes National Park.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park.         

Day Itinerary

After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters. You will meet with your ranger who will brief you about the code of conduct while with the gorillas. You will then enter the forest in search of the gorillas. The gorilla trekking may take 2 – 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in the jungle and your group speed as well. Meet and stay with the gorillas for a maximum of one hour.  After a great experience you will walk back to the starting point, meet your guide waiting for you and be transferred to your lodge for lunch, and after lunch, you will head and visit Ellen DeGeneres Campus of Dian Fossey, to learn more about Dian contribution towards gorilla conservation. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Golden Monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali

Day Itinerary

Today after your warm early morning breakfast, we will be transferred back to the park headquarters for briefing and start off your day golden monkey trekking in search of these primates in the jungle. Just like the gorilla trekking experience, the same trekking procedures and guidelines apply to golden monkey trekking though not so hectic like gorilla trekking. You will later return to the lodge for refreshment and lunch before you transfer to Kigali for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Fly to Nairobi- Kenya

Day Itinerary

Following your morning breakfast, depending on your flight time, you will be transferred to the airport to catch up with your flight to Nairobi.

Upon arrival in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and getting done with immigration clearance, you will proceed to the waiting area, where you will be met by your Kenyan assigned guide, who will welcome you and transfer you to your booked accommodation.

Day 6: Transfer to Amboseli National Park (Approx 5 hrs drive).

Day Itinerary

The journey with One More Adventure Safaris, into the wilderness begins!

After breakfast, check out by 0800 hrs and drive to Amboseli National Park. Arrival at your tented camp for lunch. You will enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Amboseli

The park is located at the foot hill of the snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro and offers spectacular views of Africa’s highest mountain on a clear day. The park is also home to several wildlife species, notably the free ranging herds of Elephants. Other animals like Lions, Zebras, Gnus, Hippos, Hyenas, Jackals, Cheetahs and hundreds of birds may also be sighted here. You will return in the evening to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Amboseli / Nairobi / Lake Naivasha (Approx 5 hrs drive).

Day Itinerary

After your early morning breakfast, jump into your jeep and find your way to Lake Naivasha, through Nairobi for a quick visit at Giraffe center, later lunch and proceed to Lake Naivasha.

You will enjoy a scenic boat ride on the fresh water Lake. This gives you an opportunity to get up close with wildlife found here. Later return and head to your booked accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Overnight stay at: Sawela Lodge (Mid – range).

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park (Approx 2 hrs driving time).

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, meet your safari guide, jump into your jeep and drive past the Aberdare ranges and the Great Rift Valley floor on your way to Lake Nakuru. Lunch at your lodge followed by game drives from 1600 hrs. Some of the rare sightings found here are the endangered White Rhinos and Rothschild’s Giraffes. The popular pink necked lesser Flamingos may be spotted here seasonally. Other wildlife found here include Lions, Buffalos, Spotted Hyenas, Elands, Water Bucks, Zebras and birds like Herons, Pelicans, Grebes, Egyptian Geese, Cormorants, Egrets, and Ibis among several others.

Overnight stay at: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge (Mid – range).

Day 9: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve (Approx 5 hrs driving time).

Day Itinerary

A sumptuous breakfast will be served at the lodge’s main restaurant from 0630 hrs. Check out of rooms by the latest 0730 hrs and meet your safari driver guide at the lobby.

You will board your safari customized safari vehicle and depart for the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve.

You will arrive at your Mara lodge in time for lunch. This evening, you will enjoy your first game drive. The Masai Mara whose eco system is a southern extension to Serengeti National Park offers the discerning traveller a lifetime opportunity to experience wild nature at its best. Your magical Mara experience begins here with a possibility of spotting some if not all of THE BIG 5 among several other wildlife and bird species.

Overnight stay at: Saruni Basecamp (Mid – range)

Day 10 & 11: Full day game drives in Masai Mara Reserve.

Day Itinerary

You will spend two full days game drives exploring and discovering the vast Mara reserve, enjoying game drives as you search for the resident Big Cats, herbivores, various antelopes and bird species. (You may also opt for morning and afternoon game drives with mid-morning at leisure). Be on the lookout for Lions, Cheetahs, Buffalos, Zebras, Spotted Hyenas, Masai Giraffes, Elands, Gazelles, Hippos, and Leopard, Black Rhino and several other animals and birds that reside here. The Mara, one of the most famous wildlife reserves in Africa is home to the Big Five as well as other predators, scavengers, plains game and prolific birdlife. This is also the place where the wildlife spectacle referred to as the annual wildebeest migration takes place every year between July and October when over 1.2 million Wildebeest together with Zebras and various Antelope species cross over from Serengeti in search of greener pastures. Your drive will dedicate time to trailing this great spectacle as it unfolds.

Hot Air Balloon Flight: During one of the days, you will undertake early morning hot air balloon flight over the vast Masai Mara savannah, enabling you to view wildlife and the landscape from a bird’s eye view. This is an amazing experience which is worth every penny. Dinner and overnight will be served at the lodge.

Day 12: Masai Mara / Northern Serengeti- Travel time + 8.5 hrs.  

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, collect your picnic lunch and depart for the seemingly endless plains; The Serengeti. You enjoy a three-hour drive to the Isebania border crossing point, clear with immigration’s and proceed to northern Serengeti. You will enjoy en route game viewing in search of the BIG CATS that reside here.

Overnight stay at: Acacia Migration Tented Camp (Mid – range).

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 13: Northern Serengeti.

Day Itinerary

You will spend the full day exploring the northern part of the Serengeti as you search for major wildlife sightings. This is where you can witness the great migration between June and October as they graze in the savannah woodlands and along the shores of the crocodile infested Mara River with frequent River crossings between the south and north being witnessed regularly. After the calving season in southern Serengeti between February and March, the migration moves to Seronera in Central Serengeti between April and May, before arriving north from June. Big predators like Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, and scavenging opportunists like jackals, hyenas, vultures, Marabou Storks are always trailing the migration so you also have a chance of catching them in action.

Day 14: Transfer from North to Central Serengeti with an en route game.

Day Itinerary

You will enjoy your breakfast, morning game drives in northern Serengeti and then depart for Central Serengeti with en route game viewing. This afternoon, you will explore the most popular part of the Siringet- the Seronera area. The abundance of both predator and prey here will amaze you as you cover different habitat and geographical areas during your game drives.

Day 15: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater – Zanzibar.

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, you depart to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En route, you may visit the Ol Dupai Gorge, the museum where archaeological collections by Louis and Mary Leakey are displayed insitu. This is an optional opportunity to learn about human evolution and the early man. This afternoon, you descend down the steep walls of the caldera for game drives along the crater floor. Lions, Elephants (including huge bulls), Cheetah, Spotted Hyena, Black Rhino, Gnus, Jackals, Baboons, Buffalos, Flamingos (on the crater lakes), Hippos and even the rare Caracal are some of the animals you might spot here. You will later drive off to Arusha and proceed to Kilimanjaro Airport to catch up with your evening flight to Zanzibar.

Upon arrival in Zanzibar Airport, you will be met by our Zanzibar One More Adventure representative, who will transfer you to your booked hotel for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 16: Stone town tour, Spice tour & Dhow Cruise.

Day Itinerary

Have morning breakfast, you will head for a day excursion to explore the vibrant hot spot of Zanzibar with a tour of the Stone Town, and learn about its rich history and cultural heritage and Spice tour, which is the second income earner of Zanzibar, with a drive through a profusion of greenery in the countryside seeing, smelling and tasting a variety of spices and mouth-watering tropical seasonal fruits such as jack fruit, pineapple, banana, green coconut juice, dourian, love apple, litche, soursop ( depending on the season ) etc. Spices such as cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, turmeric, vanilla, and nutmeg – are as exotic as the flavour. This is also the very best and cheapest place to buy locally made perfumes and oils.

Our guided walking tour passes through villages and spice plantations, a walk through the farms as spice farm workers climb trees, seek out specific plants and cut off various barks, letting you see, feel and taste everything.

Later in the evening, head for the sunset Dhow cruise to explore Zanzibar Sea. You will return in the late evening.
