Trip Overview

The 16 Days Uganda Gorilla trekking and Kenya Tanzania BIG 5 Wildlife Adventure Safari takes you across Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. You will land through Kigali – Rwanda, with a visit to Volcanoes National Park to trek the golden monkeys in Rwanda before crossing to Uganda, to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is known to harbor the famous mountain gorillas. You have a chance to come face to face with the gorillas. You will as well have a great experience of meeting the gorilla and golden monkeys in their natural habitat, before you fly to Kenya, and, later drive for a wonderful Big Five safari experience in the world’s greatest wildlife safari park, Amboseli, Nakuru, Naivasha and Masai Mara National Reserve, known for its unique bird species and abundant BIG 5 wildlife experiences before you connect to Serengeti and Ngorongoro in Tanzania for a wonderful safari moment. The safari starts with arrival through Kigali – Rwanda, through Uganda, Kenya and ends in Tanzania.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali.

Day Itinerary

Welcome to Kigali – Rwanda!

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and passing through the immigration process, you will be welcomed by our safari driver who will brief you shortly, lead you to your vehicle and transfer you to the booked accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Kigali city tour and transfer to Musanze: Travel time +2 hrs 

Day Itinerary

Today after taking your relaxed morning breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge, meet your guide, share a short introductory briefing about the trip, get into your safari vehicle and drive to visit the Kigali genocide memorial grounds, which honors the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building. You will be able to watch and listen to some video clips from some of the survivors’ of the incident. Later you will proceed for lunch in town before you drive to Musanze which is roughly 2 hours to your booked accommodation, where you will reach in the evening and relax, as you prepare for your next day’s gorilla trekking experience at Volcanoes National Park.

Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking and transfer to Bwindi. Travel time+ 2hrs

Day Itinerary

Today after your warm early morning breakfast, we will be transferred back to the park headquarters for briefing and start off your day golden monkey trekking in search of these primates in the jungle. Just like the gorilla trekking experience, the same trekking procedures and guidelines apply to golden monkey trekking though not so hectic like gorilla trekking. You will later return to the lodge before you return for lunch, refreshment and later transfer to Bwindi via Cyanika border. You will spend the afternoon at leisure.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Experience at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Day Itinerary

Early morning cup of coffee, then prepare for the briefing from the Uganda wildlife park officials and thereafter enter the jungle to search for the shy mountain gorillas and enjoy their lifestyle in their real home. After meeting the gorillas, you can sit around these great apes for a whole hour gazing into their big round eyes. On a gorilla safari, a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as walking shoes, packed food and mineral water, insect repellent, sunscreen and hut. The gorilla tracking experience takes half or whole day depending on the movement of these primates. An hour will be allocated to you upon landing on the gorillas, have time to share the same environment with the family, watch the mothers wean their babies, juveniles, swing on trees, as the silverbacks watch over the stubborn black backs. After this gorilla tracking experience, you will drive to your lodge for lunch. After lunch at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and fly to Nairobi 

Day Itinerary

Early relaxed early morning breakfast with your guide and later get into your jeep and drive off to Kigali, reach and catch up with lunch, and after lunch, if time permits, head for an added Kigali city tour with a visit to local market, and art galleries. Depending on your flight time, you will be transferred to the airport to catch up with your flight to Nairobi.

Upon arrival in Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and getting done with immigration clearance, you will proceed to the waiting area, where you will be met by your Kenyan assigned guide from One More Adventure Safaris, who will welcome you and transfer you to your booked accommodation.

Overnight stay at:  Tamarind Tree Hotel (Mid – range)

Day 6: Transfer to Amboseli National Park (Approx 5 hrs drive).

Day Itinerary

The journey with One More Adventure Safaris, into the wilderness begins!

After breakfast, check out by 0800 hrs and drive to Amboseli National Park. Arrival at your tented camp for lunch. You will enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Amboseli

The park is located at the foot hill of the snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro and offers spectacular views of Africa’s highest mountain on a clear day. The park is also home to several wildlife species, notably the free ranging herds of Elephants. Other animals like Lions, Zebras, Gnus, Hippos, Hyenas, Jackals, Cheetahs and hundreds of birds may also be sighted here. You will return in the evening to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Overnight stay at: Ol Tukai Lodge (Mid – range).

Day 7: Amboseli / Nairobi / Lake Naivasha (Approx 5 hrs drive).

Day Itinerary

After your early morning breakfast, jump into your jeep and find your way to Lake Naivasha, through Nairobi for a quick visit at Giraffe center, later lunch and proceed to Lake Naivasha.

You will enjoy a scenic boat ride on the fresh water Lake. This gives you an opportunity to get up close with wildlife found here. Later return and head to your booked accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Overnight stay at: Sawela Lodge (Mid – range).

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park (Approx 2 hrs driving time).

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, meet your safari guide, jump into your jeep and drive past the Aberdare ranges and the Great Rift Valley floor on your way to Lake Nakuru. Lunch at your lodge followed by game drives from 1600 hrs. Some of the rare sightings found here are the endangered White Rhinos and Rothschild’s Giraffes. The popular pink necked lesser Flamingos may be spotted here seasonally. Other wildlife found here include Lions, Buffalos, Spotted Hyenas, Elands, Water Bucks, Zebras and birds like Herons, Pelicans, Grebes, Egyptian Geese, Cormorants, Egrets, and Ibis among several others.

Overnight stay at: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge (Mid – range).

Day 9: Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve (Approx 5 hrs driving time).

Day Itinerary

A sumptuous breakfast will be served at the lodge’s main restaurant from 0630 hrs. Check out of rooms by the latest 0730 hrs and meet your safari driver guide at the lobby.

You will board your safari customized safari vehicle and depart for the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve.

You will arrive at your Mara lodge in time for lunch. This evening, you will enjoy your first game drive. The Masai Mara whose eco system is a southern extension to Serengeti National Park offers the discerning traveller a lifetime opportunity to experience wild nature at its best. Your magical Mara experience begins here with a possibility of spotting some if not all of THE BIG 5 among several other wildlife and bird species.

Overnight stay at: Saruni Basecamp (Mid – range)

Day 10 & 11: Full day game drives in Masai Mara Reserve.

Day Itinerary

You will spend two full days game drives exploring and discovering the vast Mara reserve, enjoying game drives as you search for the resident Big Cats, herbivores, various antelopes and bird species. (You may also opt for morning and afternoon game drives with mid-morning at leisure). Be on the lookout for Lions, Cheetahs, Buffalos, Zebras, Spotted Hyenas, Masai Giraffes, Elands, Gazelles, Hippos, and Leopard, Black Rhino and several other animals and birds that reside here. The Mara, one of the most famous wildlife reserves in Africa is home to the Big Five as well as other predators, scavengers, plains game and prolific birdlife. This is also the place where the wildlife spectacle referred to as the annual wildebeest migration takes place every year between July and October when over 1.2 million Wildebeest together with Zebras and various Antelope species cross over from Serengeti in search of greener pastures. Your drive will dedicate time to trailing this great spectacle as it unfolds.

Hot Air Balloon Flight: During one of the days, you will undertake early morning hot air balloon flight over the vast Masai Mara savannah, enabling you to view wildlife and the landscape from a bird’s eye view. This is an amazing experience which is worth every penny. Dinner and overnight will be served at the lodge.

Day 12: Masai Mara / Northern Serengeti- Travel time + 8.5 hrs.  

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, collect your picnic lunch and depart for the seemingly endless plains; The Serengeti. You enjoy a three-hour drive to the Isebania border crossing point, clear with immigration’s and proceed to northern Serengeti. You will enjoy en route game viewing in search of the BIG CATS that reside here.

Overnight stay at: Acacia Migration Tented Camp (Mid – range).

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 13: Northern Serengeti.

Day Itinerary

You will spend the full day exploring the northern part of the Serengeti as you search for major wildlife sightings. This is where you can witness the great migration between June and October as they graze in the savannah woodlands and along the shores of the crocodile infested Mara River with frequent River crossings between the south and north being witnessed regularly. After the calving season in southern Serengeti between February and March, the migration moves to Seronera in Central Serengeti between April and May, before arriving north from June. Big predators like Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, and scavenging opportunists like jackals, hyenas, vultures, Marabou Storks are always trailing the migration so you also have a chance of catching them in action.

Day 14: Transfer from North to Central Serengeti with an en route game.

Day Itinerary

You will enjoy your breakfast, morning game drives in northern Serengeti and then depart for Central Serengeti with en route game viewing. This afternoon, you will explore the most popular part of the Siringet- the Seronera area. The abundance of both predator and prey here will amaze you as you cover different habitat and geographical areas during your game drives.

Overnight stay at: Kubu Kubu Tented Camp (Luxury).

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 15: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater.

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, you depart to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En route, you may visit the Ol Dupai Gorge, the museum where archaeological collections by Louis and Mary Leakey are displayed insitu. This is an optional opportunity to learn about human evolution and the early man. This afternoon, you descend down the steep walls of the caldera for game drives along the crater floor. Lions, Elephants (including huge bulls), Cheetah, Spotted Hyena, Black Rhino, Gnus, Jackals, Baboons, Buffalos, Flamingos (on the crater lakes), Hippos and even the rare Caracal are some of the animals you might spot here. Later return to your lodge, for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 16: Transfer to Kilimajaro International Airport for departure.

Day Itinerary

Today, your East Africa primate and wildlife safari, comes to an end!

Have morning breakfast, you will have a free relaxed morning day at the hotel, and depending on your flight time to your home country, you shall be transferred to Kilimajaro International Airport, to catch up with your flight back home, with great memories.
