The Eastern Uganda Safari circuit has been made great through interest by many guests who would love to hike the beautiful hilarious hills of Sipi falls at Mt Elgon National Park. The Sipi Falls are arguably the most beautiful waterfalls in Uganda, which is so rewarding, with the beautiful plain view at the backdrop. Other than the presence of the great sipi falls, the region is also known for producing Uganda’s gold medalists, who come from the mountains area. Majority to tours to Kidepo National Park, always have Sipi falls hiking as part of their activities on the Eastern circuit drive, as the best stopover to break the journey.

At One More Adventure, our Sipi falls tour, is accompanied, under the guidance of our famous local guide Willian Cheptoek, born and bred from the soil. He knows the area as the back of his palm

Sipi Falls Hike at Mt Elgon National Park takes you through the tomato and beautiful banana gardens, coffee plantation and there is a point where you will take a forest nature walk as you connect from one fall to another. A number of bird species and other rare mountainous flora can be spotted along the sippi falls hiking trails.

The Sipi falls is made of 3 waterfalls.

Following the Sipi river flow from the top, the first waterfall plunges 85 meters over a cliff into the plunge pool below.  It is the second highest of the three Sipi waterfalls and gives off such a thunderous splash! Midway this cliff is a trail that cuts behind the waterfall. It looks quite scary from the bottom before you get up there, but it is safe and such an incredible vantage point for better views of the falls and panoramic views of the Mt. Elgon Slopes & the distant plains of the Karamoja region.

After the plunge, the river continues on its course through farmlands & local communities, flowing over rocks & small cliffs and thereby forming pools and rapids, before it plunges 65 meters over another big cliff, forming the second waterfall of the Sipi Falls. This is the smallest of the three Sipi waterfalls. The waterfall forms a nice “natural shower” which you can go under and enjoy the cold pour especially after a tiring hike. However during the rainy season the water volume goes up and the shower will be too strong and risky. There is also a man-made cave behind the waterfall situated near to the bottom. The cave offers a wonderful behind the waterfall experience, where you can sit silently in the shadow of the gushing waterfalls that have created a sort of a curtain to the cave.  Enjoy the cool breeze, nice views and lots of good photos! From this point, you can watch over the great valley and farm land. This is the best point to watch sunset during your sundowner treat at sipi falls.

From here the river flow continues through a bit of more bushes and less local community farmlands, before plunging over another massive cliff, 100 meters high – hence the biggest of the three Sipi waterfalls. This waterfall has a big enough plunge pool that you can dive in for a swim in the cold waters. It is commonly referred to as a “natural swimming pool”. This is considered the main waterfall and oftentimes mistaken to be “thee” Sipi Falls without considering the two others waterfalls. It is totally breathtaking with rainbows cutting through the sparkling white falls. This is as well the closed waterfall.

Most hikes always start with this biggest waterfall as the hiker ascends the falls until they reach the top.

Biking at Sipi falls is also possible for those who would like to use the bikes to reach the further tallest waterfalls.
