Gorilla trekking is one of the top leading attractions for visitors to Rwanda and Volcanoes National Park. A close encounter with the mountain gorillas is one of its kind, with many people referring to it as “Once a lifetime experience”.
Gorilla trekking at Volcanoes National Park, has become popular, which has led to the hike of the gorilla permits to 1500 dollars per permit, due to the fact that many visitors do believe that this is the best place to trek and watch the mountain gorillas on the planet.
From a smooth drive of roughly 2 hour’s, from Kigali to your booked lodge in Volcanoes National Park area, where you will have an overnight stay, for your next day trek is amazing, as the drive rewards you with a beautiful view of the undulating hills, and valleys.
On the day of trek, having had a heavy breakfast at your lodge, at 6: 30 am, you will be transferred to the park headquarters at Kinigi, where all the trekkers assemble, for group allocation, followed by briefing from your trek assigned guide. The dos and don’ts are well brought onto your attention.
The group is done, based on client’s interest, as some may prefer longer treks, also age and physical fitness is looked at.
Later, you get back to your safari jeeps (should be a 4 x 4, as the terrain is real marvel) and drive to the gorilla trekking starting point. A short briefing is also conducted, before you start your way to the hills, in search of the gorillas, which is always covered with excitement, as you enjoy a guided hike along the trip up to the mountains.
The same gorilla trekking procedures apply for the Uganda gorilla trekking safari at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park.
Your guide of the day will share with you interesting stories about the park and people, as you go along with the hike. A little physical fitness is required as the hike sometimes tends to be longer since the gorillas keep moving.
The vegetation in the volcanoes area is bamboo kind of woodland, which has a kind of open woodland, giving a great chance to sight the gorillas.
Upon landing on the gorillas, an hour will be allocated to you, to observe the mother’s breast feed, as the young juveniles keep you entertained, as they swing from one tree branch to another, chasing each other. The silverback is always just calm, taking control of the situation.
You are free to take photos of your choices, at the end when the hour allocated elapses, you will bid farewell to the gorillas and descend to the parking yard, to meet your guide and drive to your lodge for lunch.
The entire Gorilla Trekking experience at Volcanoes National Park, comes to an end, you can now proceed with another day’s programme arranged for you.
