Monkeys, duikers, bush pigs, and some of Bwindi’s world-renowned bird and butterfly species can be sighted.
Kashasha River Trail (6 to 7 hrs)

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park entrance and ranger guide fees required. These 2 walks can also be done in reverse order from Buhoma to Nkuringo.
The Buhoma – Nkuringo trail can be done vice versa, using two route, thus Buhoma to Nkuringo up to Nteko gate, via Ivy River, which is roughly 3 – 4 hours hike, and later drive to Nkuringo for about 10 km, or Buhoma to Nkuringo via Kashasha River, which is roughly a 6 – 7 hours hike.

There is much to experience, and encounter during your Buhoma – Nkuringo trek. The scenery is stunning, waterfalls, trees, ferns, rocks, mosses, birds, butterflies, gecko’s and a number of species of monkeys. After about 3 hours you leave the forest and come out onto the Kashasha River Valley, this will be at an altitude of around 1600 meters, as you enjoy the great guided walk learning more about the local communities and the batwa who live next to the forest.
Walking up to the ridge is amazing not only for the stunning views of the Virunga’s and village people working their crops on the steep hillsides but you begin to share the trail with more foot traffic as women and children come past with crops balanced on their heads.
You will engage on the last part of your walk, taking on steep hills, around 2100 meters above sea level, which is tougher, but rewarding with the stunning view across – it’s just beautiful here. Porter or no porter?
The porters are members of the local community, whose earning comes from trekking alongside with you, through providing all sorts of rendered assistance that you will need along the hiking adventure. Let it be the hiking trek or the gorilla trekking, you will need their assistance at one point. The trek is not easy but the ‘push me, pull me porters’ are amazing in ensuring you get to the bottom and back again. Make sure you use them. Even if you don’t want them to carry anything. Their names go on a roster and if you don’t use a porter he misses out on income and has to wait until his next roster opportunity. Using them helps the community and the gorillas.
At One More Adventure Safaris, we strongly recommend the use of the porters, as part and partial of our mission on social responsibility, to bring down the impact of tourism to the local community, thus supporting their livelihood, hence creating a difference!
