The 3 days Congo Nyiragongo hiking adventure, rewards you with an experience to explore two countries, namely Rwanda and DR Congo in the shortest time possible with a summit to this active volcano. The shortest hiking tour is a 3 days Nyiragongo safari expedition for travelers starting their trip from Kigali – Rwanda. The real hike is 2 days: one day for ascending and the second day is for descending down as it comes with an overnight stay at the top of the volcano.

Day 1: Transfer to Gisenyi
Day Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport (early morning flight recommended/ or picked from your hotel in Kigali), you will be picked my our company guide and transferred for a short city tour of Kigali, to visit the various attractions of this beautiful town, including a visit to genocide memorial ground where over 250000 bodies of victim of the Rwandan genocide of the 1994 were buried to rest in mass ground, as respect to their soul. You will later embark on your transit to Gisenyi, at the shores of Lake Kivu, where you will spend an overnight as you wait for your next day early morning transit. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Mount Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking
Day Itinerary
Wake up very early in the morning hours with a cup of coffee and jump into the safari jeep to drive to cross the border to Democratic Republic of Congo where you will drive later for an hour to Kibati park headquarters’, the starting point for Mount Nyiragongo hike, you will find there the mikeno package including all your meals for lunch and dinner in the evening. You will meet with other hikers for the day, and the ranger guides will brief you about the hiking, before you set off for your hike. The Nyiragongo hike takes about 5-7 hours to reach at the top depending on the size of the group of the trekkers, pace and your walking ability. You will all walk at the pace of the slowest person in the group, as no one is left behind, having time to take some beautiful photos along the way. Upon reaching the summit, you will have a lovely moment of photography on top of the summit and later dinner and overnight at the Nyiragongo Cabin Summit shelters. Meal Plan: Full board.
Day 3: Descend Mount Nyiragongo and depart off to Kigali
After early morning break fast start, which will be prepared at the summit, you will take beautiful photos of the glowing lava, and later, you will all at once, start to descend down ward to Kibati, where you will find, your safari guide, waiting for you and later transfer to Goma passing through Goma town and if time allows take a brief city tour of the Goma caves and visit the lava areas that were affected in 2012 by Nyiragongo. Cross the border, after finalizing with immigration processes and transfer to Kigali international airport for your onward late evening flight or drop at your hotel in Kigali. End of service!
